From London to Rio - Ipanema

Writer: Boarding PassBoarding Pass

We recently embarked on an adventure that took us across the ocean, from the bustling streets of London to the sun-drenched shores of Rio de Janeiro. After a long smooth British Airways flight that lasted twelve hours, We landed at Guarulhos Airport in São Paulo, flying from London Heathrow Airport.

Our next destination was the stunning city of Rio de Janeiro, which we were eagerly looking forward to exploring. The real magic began when we boarded a flight to Santos Dumont airport, which is situated close to the center of Rio. The descent and landing were truly breathtaking, as the airport is located right on the shores of Guanabara Bay. As we flew past the famous Christ the Redeemer statue and the picturesque mountains of Rio, we were in awe of the stunning views. The moment we stepped off the plane, we knew that Rio was a place that would captivate us.

As we stepped out of the airport, we were greeted by our friendly driver, who whisked us away to our cozy studio in Ipanema. Along the way, he shared stories about the city and gave us tips for the best places to explore

Our search for accommodation on Airbnb and other websites has led us to find this cozy studio apartment in the charming neighborhood of Ipanema. Our stay there was enjoyable. The studio was nothing short of impressive being less than 5 minutes walk from the beach.

After arriving there we were eager to get ready for the beach and to start our adventure in this paradise-like city.

Tip: getting around Rio was very easy using Uber rides and they are not expensive especially if you are not traveling solo.

After putting on our swimwear and flip-flops, we made our way to Ipanema Beach. The boardwalk, made with black and white stones, runs alongside Avenida Vieira Souto and is renowned for its stunning design. As we walked, we eventually stumbled upon the renowned "Posto 9, 10" of Ipanema Beach. The "Postos" are lifeguard stations, spread along the beach providing convenient access to toilets and showers. The sun was shining brightly, making it the perfect day to enjoy the breathtaking sights and sounds of the beach.

All along the beach, you will find kiosks and people that will be inviting you to rent umbrellas and chaise longues. Prices will go up on weekends and busy days.

Once we chose our perfect spot it was time for some tan and some fresh coconut water. We loved watching the sun shining on top of "Dois Irmãos" a famous rock formation south of Ipanema.

You will find many vendors passing by selling food, beach towels and beachwear. We have tried a few of them and the food was tasty. It was a nice experience to taste the local flavors on the beach.

Just before sunset, we decided to walk along Ipanema to "Arpoador" a small rocky beach between Ipanema and Copacabana. on top of these rocks, you will be able to watch a breathtaking sunset behind the "Dois Irmãos".

Tip: Make sure to have enough time to walk there and find a nice spot where you can see the sunset. "Arpoador" tends to be crowded on weekends.
